My eyes have already started welling up as I take my mind back to this night. This birth is very close to my heart. This is my family and I am beyond proud of them.  I’ve been staring blankly at the screen for awhile now, writing then deleting, just wanting to give their story justice. Remember below is only a selection of images; the whole story is too intimate to share.

These two are some of the best parents I know and to be able to witness them journey through birth together was nothing short of amazing.

Starting about 8pm, this was no easy birth. Leigh summed up the labour pretty well when after hours of slow progress and painfully watching his wife struggle, he looked at me and mouthed the words ‘this sucks!’. ‘Yep, sure does’ I thought as I nodded back at him. If you’ve heard me talk about birth before you’ve probably heard me say that I think it is beautiful, hence why I started The Birth Story. My passion is to bring new light to birth, to highlight its beauty. When I was pregnant and had never experienced birth, too many people spoke of it in a negative light. The horror stories.. you know what I mean. So here I was at about 5am holding a heat pack on her back, praying that this baby comes soon, contemplating how easy it would be to think that there is nothing beautiful about this and it was not even me in labour. Suzy is incredible in every way! She just kept going despite the pain and discouraging progress, as Leigh beautifully supported her through it all.

Noon the next day and here comes the beautiful part of birth…  little Fletcher finally breathed his first breath.

Tears. Joy. Relief. Pride. Overwhelming, and I’m just the Aunty. Haha.

I’ll let the images speak the rest.
