{ Oliver ~ The Birth Story Photographer }

‘We want to book you as our photographer for our upcoming birth.. we just aren’t pregnant yet!’

That is what Simone first emailed me. I hadn’t met her as yet but was already excited that she would want me to photograph her birth. Dan and Simone are pretty cool people! When Dan was the first guy to ‘like’ my birth photography Facebook page, my view of him instantly rose. I knew he was going to be hands on and supportive throughout the birth. I was right.

It was a treat to quietly observe and capture the moments of silence that spoke so loudly. Their love is obvious.

With each birth I photograph there seems to be a small moment that catches me with a little tear.  For Dan and Simone, it was the way he tenderly held her forehead up against his and seemed to admire her for all that she was doing. Very sweet. The beauty of having a birth photographer is that the birthing mother can look back at her story from another perspective and see her husbands loving support. Moments that would be quickly forgotten otherwise.

Simone was simply amazing! As the sun was rising, after being in hospital for 3.5 hrs, she beautifully birthed little (big) Oliver.

And so his story begins…

{ Jemimah ~ Bendigo Birth Photographer }

It is never a small thing that a couple would invite me, and all those scrolling through this blog, into one of the most intimate and raw moments of their life. As you look through their  images, I want you to remember that. This is real. This is their birth story and it is a treat for us to be invited.

.

4:30 am the phone rings and adrenaline kicks in instantly. I am so pumped and on the way in a few minutes. When I chat with couples prior to the birth, they always say, ‘We’ll feel bad calling you through the night’. Forget it. I love it. haha.

.

Dave and Adaline are just beautiful, so supportive and loving to each other. A beautiful thing to watch and capture. Men, can I just say – never underestimate your power of support for a birthing woman! A loving, supportive partner is the best pain relief..in my opinion.

.

We hadn’t been in the delivery room long when the time of birth was drawing near. Adaline’s words brought a little tear to my eye as she expressed her fears to Dave. Adaline, you are so much stronger than you realise! With amazing midwives around you (a shout out to you unsung heroes), 45 minutes after we entered the room you were birthing your little darling! How incredible! My absolute favourite moment is when the midwife lifted little Jemimah up and you were surprised she was actually out! What a precious moment to remember laying eyes on her for the first time. This is why I am a birth photographer. Need I say more?
